Growth and learning are lifelong processes for all human beings
and when this process is facilitated by the use of horses, it is not only lots of fun, but full of lessons that lead to personal
insights and improved social skills. As people grow in these abilities, the health
of the individual and the families they are part of naturally improves. With
stronger individuals and families, communities are also more successful.
DayStar Ranch is dedicated to promoting personal growth and success
in relationships. We currently provide equine facilitated learning to clients
of Tehama
County through two agencies, Mental Health and Social Services. We also collaborate with community agencies to foster the important works they do
to improve the lives of children, youth and families.
Over these past years DayStar Ranch has provided low or no cost
services to youth from area group homes and a weekly after school activity for at risk elementary school children. We have hosted ranch field trips for autistic school children and developmentally delayed adults, and held
horsemanship day camps for groups of foster children. Several families from transitional
housing for domestic violence enjoyed monthly sessions at the ranch for our Horse Play activities. Clients of other local agencies have gained self confidence and moved towards recovery from painful pasts
by participating in our trainings. Some youth became so good at working with
horses that they were able to find employment with other ranches and horse owners.
It is our desire to expand our services to other individuals and
agencies through creating a type of “pay it forward” scholarship fund to serve families struggling with the issues of poverty, homelessness and other
challenges. This way everyone can experience the joy of adopting an altruistic
lifestyle.
